Florence MacDougall Community School is located in the town of High Level, Alberta. High Level is located in the Northwestern region of Alberta on the Mackenzie Highway. We are approximately eight hundred kilometers north of Edmonton (our provincial capital) and eight hundred kilometers south of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The town has a population of approximately 3500 people. High Level's main industries are logging, oil and gas, grain farming (we are home to one of the most northerly farming areas in all of Canada!) and service to the surrounding areas. During Winter and Fall we enjoy the spectacular Northern Lights. The Spring and Summer months bring us a lot of sunshine – about 20 hours a day in June!
FMCS is an Early Intervention – Grade 3 School with a population of approximately 450 students and 60 staff. We have numerous classes at each grade level and many programs and support systems in place to help each student reach their full potential. Ongoing FMCS events, such as our Education Cafe, Teddy Bear Picnic and Family Christmas Night, help to bring our school community together and create a welcoming climate.
